MWC Targeting Utah State In Expansion Plans

Jan 25, 2011 4:17 PM

The Mountain West Conference is losing both Utah and Brigham Young next season and is looking at Utah State in hopes of maintaining their presence in the state.

The league will vote on expansion later this week and Utah State is expected to be voted into the Mountain West.

The Aggies have made 11 consecutive postseason appearances, including four NCAA berths in the last six years.

The defections of the Aggies would further deplete the WAC which already will lose Boise State, Nevada and Fresno State to the Mountain West.

SDSU Hands Utah Sixth Straight Loss

Jan 8, 2011 10:43 PM

San Diego State defeated Utah 71-62 on Saturday to hand the Utes their sixth straight loss.

Utah coach Jim Boylen says that time management has been the team's problem. They are good for 32-34 minutes, but they struggle the remaining 6-8 minutes.

"That's where this team is at right now," Boylen said after Utah dropped to 7-9 overall.

The Utes held a 34-33 halftime lead over the undefeated Aztecs and trailed by just one point, at 57-56, with eight minutes remaining.

"You have to give San Diego State credit. They made the plays," Boylen said. "They were able to separate from us by making big shots and big plays."
